Light the World Giving Machines return to Knoxville

Last year, the effort raised more than $31,000 for local charities.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Now's your chance to give back and spread some holiday cheer right here in East Tennessee.

The "Light the World Giving Machine" initiative will return to Knoxville from Wednesday, Nov. 20 to Tuesday, Dec. 3. This unique donation effort, sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, places vending machines across the country where people can donate to support local charities in need. Knoxville machines will be located at 524 Gay Street.

Last year, the Giving Machines raised over $31,000 for local charities with nearly 1,400 items donated, including family meal kits, childcare and housing assistance. Participating local charities include the Boys and Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley, Centro Hispano de East Tennessee, Knoxville Area Urban League, Knoxville Habitat for Humanity and the Volunteer Ministry Center.

Giving Machines will remain open 24/7 with volunteers and activities planned throughout the day. This year's event will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 20 at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 6:30 p.m. launch party at the East Tennessee History Center with guest performer Chris Blue.
