Light the Night on UT's campus

UT's campus turned red Thursday in memory of the people who battle leukemia and lymphoma.

Hundreds of students lit up lanterns for the 13th annual Light the Night walk. Students started walking at Circle Park all the way through UT's campus.

Leukemia and lymphoma attack a person's blood and bone marrow. The diseases are extremely painful for patients, and organizers say there's still a long way to go to find a cure.

"Sadly, leukemia is the number cancer killer in children under 20, and there is no type of testing or screening you can do for a blood cancer. So research is key to finding a research and a cur, and that's what our mission is-- get that funded and get it to the patients," said Lori Friel, campaign coordinator.

With all the support, organizers say they expect to raise at least $200,000 from the event.
