7th annual Cattywampus Parade & Block Party coming to Knoxville this weekend

This year's theme is "We Dwell Together." The event is free and open to all.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Get ready for a weekend of art, fun and giant puppets! The Cattywampus Puppet Council is having its 7th annual parade and block party event for the Knoxville community on Sunday, May 19.

According to the organization, the event "brings together diverse and intergenerational cross-sections of the community to play, create and build relationships with one another."

Everyone is invited to make giant puppets, masks, costumes and other art.

This year's parade is part of Open Streets Knoxville, an event that detours vehicles from the streets to connect the community with local businesses and organizations. It encourages the use of active transportation (walking, biking, rollerblading), promotes healthy living and allows people to reimagine the streets as a public space.

The parade is scheduled for kick-off at 3 p.m. and process along the Open Streets route, finishing at the corner of N. Central & Baxter Avenue with a block party from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The party will feature local hip-hop, drumming, dance, a giant puppet skit and more.
