Cattywampus Puppet Council hosting Fall Ball to raise money for 2024 programming

The puppet council has hosted events like a parade at Big Ears and workshops on creating giant puppets.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The group of puppet-makers behind giant puppet parades at Big Ears, and other festivals, is hosting a Fall Ball on Saturday to raise money.

The Cattywampus Puppet Council brings interactive parades, theater and plays to communities across East Tennessee. Most of the council's work centers around working with young people, such as through programs like the Parade Youth Intern Squad which helps plan and organize an annual parade and street party.

The group also works with schools and afterschool programs and creates original theater pieces for shows at public libraries and for full-length productions.

The Fall Ball event is meant to help them raise money to continue providing programming in 2024. They are aiming to raise a total of $35,000.

During the Fall Ball, attendees are invited to show up in any attire they want, such as a fancy gown with butterfly wings or a Halloween costume with cardboard masks. The Fall Ball will feature music, dancing, snacking and drinks along with a costume photo booth, a silent auction and plenty of giant puppets.

The Knox Honkers and Bangers, a community brass band, will also perform. It will be at the Old City Performing Arts Center.
