Want to get your kids off the couch? City of Knoxville offers after-school art classes

Trade those hours playing video games for time creating pinch pots and monoprints.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Looking for some fun after-school activities for your kids to get them off the couch and away from the TV? The City of Knoxville offers several Wednesday afternoon art classes during the school year.

Afterschool Art 
Who: Ages 6-12
Cost: $10
What: Each week students will create a craft that explores different art materials.
When

  • Wed. Feb. 5, 4:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m.: paper sculptures
  • Wed. Feb. 19, 4:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m.: Sandpaper Monoprints.

Afterschool Clay Club
Who: Ages 6-12
Cost: $10
What: This new class at KAFCC lets students explore hand-building techniques like slabs, coiling and pinching.
When

  • Wed. Jan. 29, 4:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m.: Animal Rattles
  • Wed. Feb.12, 4:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m.: Heart Wall Pockets

Clay Whistle Making
Who: Ages 10+
Cost: $35
What: Students will learn how to make their own clay whistle.
When: Wed. Feb 26, 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

You can register online at Knoxvilletn.gov/kafcc or in person at the Knoxville Arts & Fine Crafts Center where classes are held.

There are several other sessions at KAFCC like ballet, belly dancing and several adult art classes.
