Great Smoky Mountain National Park hosts 'Music of the Mountains'

The national park will be paying tribute to the traditional music of the Smoky Mountains this month.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — The Great Smoky Mountain National Park will be hosting the annual "Music of the Mountains" event on Saturday, Sept. 7 held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be located at the Sugarland's Visitor Center near Gatlinburg. 

This free event will pay tribute to the traditional southern Appalachia music and dance.  

This event will immerse visitors in the true Smoky Mountain experience with traditional lively old-mountain clogging, singing and storytelling.

Boogertown Gap musician will give visitors the opportunity to try playing spoons, a washtub or washboard at the "instrument petting zoo" from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and chairs or blankets to enjoy the mountainous outdoors and performances. Most of the events will be held outdoors, weather depending.

Musicians and storytellers will have performances from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

On Friday, Sept. 6, the Good Thymes Ceilidh Band will perform in Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center located in Townsend, TN at 7:00 p.m. Admission to this concert is $10 a person.
