LENOIR CITY, Tenn. — Horse Haven of Tennessee offers First Sundays full of barn tours, crafts and a brand new obstacle course.
The purpose is to partner with Horse Haven's initiative called Right Horse to bring awareness to horse adoption, said Ashley Ford, Equine Adoption Coordinator for Horse Haven of Tennessee.
The obstacle course is a series of challenges for horses and their riders to participate in.
"It's for if you were out on the trail with your horse, it's to get them desensitized to anything and everything," said Ashley Ford, Equine Adoption Coordinator for Horse Haven of Tennessee. "We don't want anything to be spooky for them and it's just to give confidence to the horse and the rider."
The obstacle course is complete with a swimming pool full of noodles and a mail box challenge, in which horses and their riders have to open and close a mailbox, Ford said.
For two decades, Horse Haven of Tennessee has been helping the community rehabilitate horses and find homes for over a thousand horses.
"We wanted to partner with the Right Horse and do something big, fun and exciting," Ford said. "We want to do events like this once a month."
Ford said they plan on incorporating the obstacle course into their fundraising event called First Sundays.
First Sundays will also include barn tours and a craft fair coming up.
"Horses are a great way to provide therapy for us and for them," Ford said. "It's a really cool experience whether you're volunteering or attending the event."
