It’s Shark Week, and downtown businesses are getting in on the fin…we mean fun. There will be shark-themed drinks, snacks, and decorations through August 4.
The Cocke County Fair is open through Saturday at the fairgrounds in Newport. Admission starts at $6.
The Tennessee Smokies host the Montgomery Biscuits on Thursday and Friday night at Smokies Stadium. Friday is Kids Takeover Night, so there will kid-friendly food and fun.
Head to Fieldhouse Social on Thursday for an epic lipsyncing battle benefiting the Humane Society of Tennessee Valley. ‘Drop the Mic 2019’ begins at 7 p.m.
The Wings of Wonder butterfly exhibit is going on now at the University of Tennessee Gardens. 25 local professional and amateur artists spent the past month putting their creative spin on large wooden butterfly silhouettes that are on display around the garden.
The Knoxville Children's Theatre will be teasing up their hair for their upcoming performance of 'Hairspray Jr.' which runs July 5-28. Tickets $10 to $12.
The Shakespeare on the Square summer tradition is back. Actors with The Tennessee Stage Company will be performing comedies A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Comedy of Errors. The performances kick off Thursday, July 11 at Market Square and continue through Aug. 10.
The Rhythm on the River concert series continues this week in Newport. There will be live music on the Riverwalk behind City Hall starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Don’t forget a lawn chair or blanket. No coolers will be allowed.

It’s Tennessee’s annual Sales Tax-Free Weekend. It’s a great chance to stock up on school supplies.
It’s the fourth Friday of July, so the Muse Knoxville is hosting its monthly free family night. The museum will be open late, and there will be free Planetarium shows.
Watch a movie inside a cool, dark cave at Cherokee Caverns. On Friday and Saturday, they’re showing ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth.’ Tickets are $10, and there are several showtimes.
Hurricane Ruth Band is performing at the Knoxville Museum of Art’s Alive After Five series. The music begins at 6 p.m. on Friday. General admission costs $15.
Zoo Knoxville is hitting the road to visit children at the Fountain City Library on Friday. The furry, slithery, or feathery animal ambassadors will be there from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Tomato Pie, tomato art, fried green tomatoes and more will be at the annual Grainger County Tomato Festival. The food-filled festival will be in town Friday through Sunday.

The Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival is Saturday at World’s Fair Park. There will be more than 60 available beers, 40 bourbons, and lots of BBQ. General Admission tickets are $40 in advance.
The TICA cat show is at the Smoky Mountain Convention Center in Pigeon Forge on Saturday and Sunday. Admission to see the competitors and shop from local feline vendors cost $3 to $8.
You’re never too old for Field Day. For the third year in a row, Girls Inc. is hosting an Adult Field Day. Teams will compete in a variety of classic competitions at Suttree Landing Park. The event costs $30 per player and you must have a full team to compete.
