KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Thanksgiving is a day all about food, family and gratitude. But for dozens of runners across the country, the race to the big feast starts with hitting the pavement. If you're looking to burn some calories ahead of this year's Thanksgiving dinner, Knoxville has the event for you!
The Regal Turkey Trot will return this Thursday for the 40th year in a row, with hundreds expected to participate. The event, sponsored by the Knoxville Track and Field Club, is open to the public and will begin at 8:45 a.m. at Mill and Mine on West Depot Avenue.
Children aged 12 and under can participate in the Little Gobbler's Kids Run at 8 a.m. Both courses use both the Henley Street and Gay Street bridges and all participants will receive a shirt and a bib before starting.
Runners should pick up their packets on Wednesday from the Mill and Mine, between noon through 6:15 p.m. They can also pick up their packets on Thanksgiving, from 6:30 a.m. through 7:45 a.m.
Awards will be handed out to the top 3 runners overall, as well as several other groups based on age and sex. There will be light refreshments provided after the race.
Dogs, roller blades and bicycles are not allowed on the 5K course.
