A talk with Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters

Thorton's group "The Boxmasters" is performing at World's Fair Park as part of the Music Feeds concert series for Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.

KNOXVILLE — Actor-writer-musician Billy Bob Thornton is back in East Tennessee for a special cause.

Thornton and his group "The Boxmasters" will perform Aug. 9, 2018, at World's Fair Park as part of the Music Feeds concert series to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.

The group has performed in East Tennessee a number of times in the past few years. They just released their eighth album, In Stereo.

"It's kind of a music state," Thornton, an Arkansas native, said. "We have just spent a lot of time in Tennessee over the years. We've all done our stretches in Nashville and Memphis, especially for me. I grew up not far from Memphis. I always loved that area because of the rich musical history."

The band was in our neck of the woods a year ago to perform a free show outside Ole Smoky Moonshine at the Island in Pigeon Forge.

The Boxmasters identify themselves as a rock-and-roll band that's heavily influenced by 1960s music. Their new album, 'In Stereo!' was released earlier this year and will take listeners back to the psychedelic music styles of the Beach Boys, The Byrds, and the Beatles.

When the band finishes their show in Knoxville, they'll hit the road for Lynchburg, Va. where they'll perform Friday night.
