KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — WBIR Channel 10 News in Knoxville announced it is promoting its veteran executive producer, Annie Carr, to the role of assistant news director.

Carr is a native of Blountville, Tennessee and has worked at WBIR for nearly a decade.

“I've always been proud to be a part of such a talented team at WBIR. I'm excited for the opportunity to continue to grow and serve East Tennessee,” Carr said.

Carr got her start working at Channel 10 as an editor in Aug. 2014 while studying broadcast journalism at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. In Jan. 2016, she was hired to a full-time producer position and was later tapped to lead the station’s special television projects. She was promoted to an executive producer role in Feb. 2021.

Carr led award-winning coverage of historic events that unfolded in East Tennessee over the past decade, including the 2016 Sevier County wildfires. Her keen eye and vision elevated Channel 10’s coverage of big events and spectacles, including the Smoky Mountain Air Show, the 2017 Great American Eclipse, Knoxville’s Festival on the Fourth and multiple Olympic games.

WBIR News Director Corey Presley said Carr was a natural fit for the assistant news director role.

"Annie is the epitome of Straight From the Heart. She's a staple in the WBIR newsroom and beloved by many across East Tennessee. It's been wonderful to work with her over the last three years and I'm excited to see this next step in her career,” Presley said.

Carr is stepping into the role effective immediately.
