KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Sarah Oppmann joined the WBIR 10News team as a photojournalist after graduating from Middle Tennessee State University in 2023. She was promoted to multi-skilled journalist a year later.

Sarah studied journalism and theatre at MTSU. She was an anchor and reporter for the campus television newscast, Middle Tennessee News, and a reporter for the 100,000-watt public radio campus radio station, WMOT. She was one of three journalists picked to host the Nashville ABC affiliate station’s live red carpet telecast of The Judds’ historic final concert, which was held at MTSU’s Murphy Center in 2022. She received a Telly Award for her work on the broadcast.

Sarah received multiple journalism awards and scholarships throughout her collegiate career, including the Kappa Tau Alpha Top Scholar Award given to MTSU’s top journalism student, as well as two competitive scholarships, the Pinckney Keel Memorial Scholarship and the Herman Eskew Award. She was also runner-up for the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters’ 2023 Horizon Award, which recognizes the state’s best up-and-coming broadcast talent. She also was a featured cast member of MTSU’s main-stage musical theater shows, including Godspell, Cabaret and Kiss Me Kate.

Sarah grew up in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and loves exploring the eastern side of the state. Outside work, she enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, exploring new restaurants, traveling the world and enjoying the great outdoors.
