Pres. Clinton Campaigns For His Wife in Greensboro

Former President Bill Clinton is making a campaign stop in Greensboro Monday afternoon. Clinton is campaigning for his wife and is expected to encourage people to take advantage of early voting.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Former President Bill Clinton made a trio of campaign stops in North Carolina, Monday.

He spoke to a crowd of about 400 people at Elon Law School in downtown Greensboro. The rally was not to try to sway voters from Senator Bernie Sanders, it was a rally to sway voters from the GOP. President Clinton focused his speech on the General Election.

Greensboro resident Shelia Brady is convinced Hillary Clinton is Democratic nominee but she isn't sure she will be her pick for president.

"I'm a registered Democrat and I've always voted Democratic but this is the first year I'm still, I'm thinking of voting Republican this year," said Brady. She went to see President Clinton speak for some clarity.

"The main reason you ought to vote for her, and I think it would be a great thing to have the first woman president, but I want you to vote for her cause she's the best single change maker I have ever dealt with and that's what really counts," said President Bill Clinton.

President Clinton emphasized the point that Hillary Clinton is a "change maker" throughout his speech. He said all the things she is promising to do is not just rhetoric - its realistic.

"She said, 'I don’t want to build any walls, I want to build ladders of opportunity and empowerment and tear down all the barriers to everybody climbing the ladders so we can all rise together.' It’s pretty simple and to do that, you have to have inclusive economics, inclusive social policies where our differences make life more interesting but our common humanity matters more. You have to have inclusive political policies so that everybody’s voice can be heard and you have to have an inclusive national security policy where you have a strong defense, tough diplomacy but a strategy to make more partners and fewer enemies too."

He added, "This election is about you. Who is most likely to empower you, who’s most likely to give you a chance to chart your own future, who’s most likely to deal with the big problems and seize the big opportunities?"

President Clinton covered all the political bases - the economy, immigration, healthcare, national security, student debt. Undecided voter Shelia Brady says she liked what she heard but still isn't convinced.

"He really hit the points that are very, very important for our nation and me as a middle class citizen of North Carolina," said Brady.

She added, "I think Hillary is well qualified, I would feel a whole lot better if this whole email situation could get behind her and be over. That’s probably one of the biggest drags for me and a big concern. I just want to know that I can trust her."

President Clinton also made campaign stops in Raleigh and Charlotte.

Before Clinton's 3-city stop, Republican National Convention spokeswoman Kara Carter released the following statement: “Fresh off a week chock-full of damaging developments in her email scandal, Hillary Clinton’s campaign is now sending in Bill Clinton to push false talking points to North Carolina voters. What her campaign forgets is that North Carolinians have already rejected Clinton and her husband three times before. No amount of spin will change the fact that voters don’t trust Hillary Clinton.”
