Officials said that one lane was open on I-40 West near Snyder Road in Sevier County after a tractor-trailer caught fire Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the day, all lanes were closed on the highway.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation said that traffic was being diverted at Exit 412, towards Deep Springs Road and Douglas Dam, while crews worked to clear the road after the fire. As of 6:40 p.m., TDOT estimated that the road would be cleared by 7:30 p.m.
Police said that a tractor-trailer caught fire near the 408 Mile Marker, causing the closure. They also told people to expect long delays. Around 5:15 p.m., officials said that one lane was back open on I-40 West.
Information about the cause of the fire and any injuries due to it was not immediately available.
