Those bag restrictions that forced Vol fans to rethink what they bring to football games are now being expanded to include concerts and special events at Thompson-Boling Arena, according to an announcement late Wednesday from the arena management office.
The first test for fans arrives Sept. 14 - the long-scheduled Maroon 5 concert.
Under the newly announced policy, patrons will be limited to one clear plastic bag "no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches." In the alternative, each person can bring a one-gallon, clear plastic storage bag.
"Patrons will also be allowed a small clutch purse not to exceed 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches," according to the announcement.
Security could and likely will search everything that comes through the gates at Thompson-Boling Arena. You won't be able to leave anything at the door, either.
Visitors can bring in mobile phones, binoculars, radios with headsets, diapers to care for children, and medical items that are necessary. Camera usage is limited and will likely vary by event.
The arena carries a long list of items that cannot be brought in, including non-clear bags, backpacks, alcohol, cans, open umbrellas, selfie sticks and professional cameras or cameras with detachable lenses.
UT announced in July it was putting in the clear-bag policy for all athletic events, including football games at Neyland Stadium.
According to the university, the SEC mandated the policy to start at all its schools for the 2017 year. UT and several other schools, however, elected this summer to make the change earlier.
