Tennessee locks up No. 3 seed in the South Region for the NCAA Tournament

The Vols will travel to Dallas for the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Tennessee starts its 21st trip to the NCAA tournament heading to Dallas, Texas as a No. 3 seed. This is the first time the Vols have been a 3-seed.

Tennessee will play No. 14 Wright State on Thursday at 12:40 p.m. ET in Dallas. This will be the first time these teams have played each other.

This will be Wright State's third time in the NCAA tournament, the first time in the past 11 years. The Raiders finished the season 25-9 winning the Horizon League conference tournament.

As a head coach, Rick Barnes has been to the Big Dance 23 times, however this is just his first time taking the Vols to the NCAA tournament. As the Texas head coach, Barnes led the Longhorns to the Final Four in 2003 as the No. 1 seed.

Tennessee won a share of the SEC regular season title earlier this year, the first time UT has done that since 2008. Tennessee lost in the SEC Tournament championship game to Kentucky earlier on Sunday.

Tennessee has reached the Sweet Sixteen 7 times as a program, reaching the Elite Eight only once.

The Vols are one of eight teams in the SEC to get an NCAA bid which is a new conference record.
