RIO DE JANEIRO — Jimmy Feigen, the American swimmer who along with Ryan Lochte was ordered to stay in Brazil while authorities investigate their story of being robbed at gunpoint, said Wednesday night he is here and cooperating with local officials.

"I’m just trying to give Brazil what they need or what they want and get out of here,'' Feigen told USA TODAY Sports during a telephone interview. "It’s a hassle. But I’m safe, everything’s fine.''

Lochte left Brazil before a judge ordered the two swimmers to turn over their passports and remain in Brazil. The judge noted inconsistencies in the swimmers’ accounts of the four of them — Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were the other two — being robbed early Sunday morning.

Bentz, reached Wednesday afternoon, said he was at the airport and could not talk. Efforts to reach Conger were unsuccessful.

Feigen said he did not want to comment further until the matter is resolved.

“Until this goes in a direction where I can see it, I can't comment,'' he said.

United States Olympic Committee officials said earlier Wednesday that they could not disclose Feigen’s location due to standard security protocols. “We will continue to cooperate with Brazilian authorities,” USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky said.
