When Team USA found their athlete house for the 2016 Olympics, they decided to go back to school.
"We love the idea of a school,”’ said Lisa Reliford with the United States Olympic Committee.
The San Paulo school near Ipanema Beach is normally full of around 600 kids, but during the Olympics it has been transformed into a gated sanctuary for U.S. athletes
“We worked with the sisters who run the school to create the schedule and legacy we want to leave behind,” said Reliford.
From the roof you can see miles of beach. Inside, the walls are full of art work created by the students.
“It really is our home away from home,” said Reliford.
In return, Team USA fixed broken walls, painted, rewired the electricity, made fire safety improvements, added WIFI and Internet, air conditioning, and resurfaced the floors so that long after the Olympics ,the kids at this school will continue a golden education.
“All that will be left behind for the children so they have virtually new school,” said Reliford.
