OLYMPICS GUIDE | Here are the venues where athletes will compete in Rio 2016

Olympic arena, site of gymnastics competition

The opening ceremony hasn't happened yet, but athletes are already ready to compete. Before the Games are officially underway, get a behind the scenes tour of some of the venues hosting the sporting events.

There are four Olympic clusters spread all around Rio de Janeiro where competition will take place -- Barra, Maracana, Deodoro and Copacabana.

Take a virtual tour of a few of the venues where the world's athletes will compete for Gold. Check back often as our reporters send more content for this expanding list!

BARRE SITE

The area used to be a Formula 1 Race Track before it was transformed into a place that will host some of the biggest events of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Here are a few of the arenas you'll see in this cluster:

OLYMPIC AQUATIC CENTRE

It's one of the very first venues viewers will see in action during Olympic competition. Swimming and diving events are scheduled to begin Saturday, just one day after the opening ceremonies on Friday, Aug. 5.

One of the most notable features about the building is the exterior art, which was commissioned by a local Brazilian artist.

But, walk two minutes down the path and you'll find...

CARIOCA ARENA 1

This is the arena where Men's and Women's Basketball events will take place. Team U.S.A. stars Kevin Durrant, Carmello Anthony, Sue Bird and Maya Moore will all play here, competing against other international basketball teams on the court.

OLYMPIC TENNIS CENTER

The bright orange and yellow facility will be the site of tennis matches, where Serena and Venus will play for gold on courts inside.

A total of 16 courts are inside the arena, some of them temporary, but the structure is expected to remain long after the games are over.

RIO OLYMPIC ARENA

Though it was not built exclusively for the 2016 Games, it bears the Olympic name. Originally built in 2007 for the Pan-Am Games, this summer, it will be home for men's and women's gymnastic events.

Stay tuned tomorrow, where Blayne Alexander and Matt Pearl will take you on a tour of the Maracana cluster, where the opening and closing ceremonies will happen, as well as track and field events.

Tune in to 11Alive on Friday Aug. 5 to watch the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Summer Olympics!
