Lady Vols beat No. 2 Texas, 82-75

The Lady Vols never trailed against No. 2 Texas in a statement win over the Longhorns on Sunday.

The No. 11 Tennessee Lady Vols took down the second-ranked team in the nation on Sunday afternoon, toppling Texas 82-75.

The Lady Vols are 10-0 for the second time under sixth-year head coach Holly Warlick.

"It's a statement for our kids," Warlick said after the game. "To beat Texas is big for us. It's big. It is a statement win for us. Now we're going to see, can we carry it to the next game and the next game?"

Tennessee improves its record in the rivalry of the UT's to 24-15, snapping a three-game losing streak to the Longhorns. The Lady Vols never trailed in the game.

"We're really good," senior Mercedes Russell said after the game. "If they're the No. 2 team in the country, where do we stand now? Because 82-75...there's your answer right there."

Russell finished the game with a double-double in 31 minutes of action, scoring 15 points and getting 12 total boards.

Senior forward Jaime Nared played all 40 minutes and led Tennessee in points (23) and rebounds (13).

The Lady Vols will head to the West Coast for a two-game road trip that includes Long Beach State on Dec. 17 and Stanford on Dec. 21.

"I think we came in underestimated," freshman Evina Westbrook said after the game. "People know now."
