Vols coaching search update Saturday afternoon

Tennessee's coaching search continues as the Vols take on Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon.

UCLA announced its hiring of Chip Kelly on Saturday morning. Florida was believed to be close to a deal for the three-time Pac-12 champ at one point, so that's good news that the Vols won't have to face him every year.

Nebraska fired head coach Mike Riley on Saturday adding another Power 5 school that is looking for a head coach to the mix, along with Arkansas who fired Bret Bielema on Saturday.

Nebraska is the alma mater of UCF head coach Scott Frost, a hot name in the coaching carousel and a potential candidate for both the Vols and Gators.

FootballScoop.com reported on Saturday that there was a chance Tennessee could offer the job to Washington State head coach Mike Leach. The website also says that Vols AD John Currie would be comfortable with Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano and that Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen "headed out recently to meet with John Currie."

Mullen's final regular season game was a loss to rival Ole Miss on Thursday night.

Leach's Cougars face Washington in the Apple Cup Saturday night and would advance to next week's Pac-12 Championship Game with a win. Schiano and Ohio State will play in the Big Ten Championship Game next week.
