Jeremy Pruitt not tired yet as he works two SEC jobs

Jeremy Pruitt only has a few more days left as Alabama's defensive coordinator, but they're important, with a national title on the line. After Monday night, he's off to Knoxville.

Jeremy Pruitt has been working two SEC jobs for the past month, but he says he's not tired yet.

That doesn't mean it's been easy being the Vols head coach and Alabama's defensive coordinator at the same time.

"There's only 24 hours in a day and to me it's a little bit of a feeling of guilt," Pruitt said at the National Championship Game media day on Saturday at Phillips Arena in Atlanta.

"You almost feel like, I'm sitting here working on this game, should I be doing something for the place that I'm about to go; or the fact that I'm trying to recruit for Tennessee or trying to set up or hire somebody and should I be spending this 45 minutes getting ready to figure out a way to stop Sony (Michel) and Nick (Chubb). There's really not a good answer to that but I've tried to manage it the best I could."

Pruitt says it's helped him that he was able to watch Kirby Smart do the same thing two years ago. Smart finished the season as Alabama's defensive coordinator, coaching in the College Football Playoff and winning a national championship while also starting out as Georgia's head coach. Now he has the Bulldogs in the title game in year two in Athens.

Pruitt's defensive coordinator at Tennessee, Kevin Sherrer, is also pulling double duty. He's the outside linebackers coach at Georgia.

"We talked last night for a little bit. I gave him a hard time, we were working pretty late. I told him I'm going to call Kirby and tell him that we're outworking y'all tonight," Pruitt said with a laugh.

Alabama and Georgia meet for the national championship on Monday at 8 p.m. in Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. After that, Pruitt's off to Knoxville.
