The Vols officially fired Butch Jones on Sunday, but the search for his replacement has been active for weeks as athletic director John Currie began vetting candidates and the coaching community viewed the Tennessee job as available.

With Jon Gruden in Charlotte to call the Monday Night Football game between the Dolphins and Panthers, many Tennessee fans continue to ponder the possibility of the former Super Bowl winner becoming the coach of the Vols.
And while Gruden-to-Tennessee remains very wishful thinking and very unlikely to happen, it remains too soon to close the door entirely on it actually happening this time.
