Her challenger, Bernie Sanders took Rhode Island.

“Our campaign is about restoring people’s confidence in our ability to solve problems together” and setting bold progressive goals “backed up by real plans,” Clinton said.

"I applaud Sen. Sanders" for pushing the party to focus on money in politics and income inequality. Among her supporters and Sanders' supporters, "there is much more that unites us than divides us," Clinton said according to USA Today.

Clinton now has 90% of the delegates she needs to win the nomination. That's less than 300 to go for a majority. Sanders has virtually no path to the nomination but promises to stay in the campaign through the national convention to help set the party policy agenda.

Speaking in Huntington, West Virginia shortly after the polls closed Sanders said, "We are doing something very unusual in contemporary American politics. We are telling the truth."

(AP) - With a five-state sweep on Tuesday, Donald Trump is staying on his narrow path to win the Republican nomination for president by the end of the primaries.

He has to keep winning to do it, and he has little room for error.

Trump padded his lead in the race for delegates, winning at least 82 of the 118 delegates up for grabs on Tuesday.

In Pennsylvania, Trump collected 17 delegates for winning the state. An additional 54 delegates are elected directly by voters - three in each congressional district. However, their names are listed on the ballot with no information about which presidential candidate they support.

"We feel very excited," Trump told reporters after the sweep.

"I'm winning by a lot of delegates, and I'm winning by millions of votes," Trump said to Fox News earlier, "You have to go into the ring and knock them out."

Clinton hopes of sweep dashed

Clinton went into the day leading in every state according to the RealClear Politics polling averages and hopes of a Trump-like sweep. Sanders dashed that hope by winning Rhode Island.

Latest RealClear Politics Polling Averages:

Pennsylvania: Clinton +16%
Maryland: Clinton +24%
Connecticut: Clinton +5.6%
Rhode Island: Clinton +2.5%
Delaware: Clinton +7

Despite the polling, the Sanders campaign promised to fight to the finish. “It’s a narrow path, but we do have a path,” Sanders said on CNN’s “New Day.” “We’re in this to the end.”

Clinton spent the day in Indiana. She has been surprisingly weak in the Midwest unexpectedly losing to Sanders in Michigan and barely winning Ohio.
