Hundreds attend the inauguration of Governor Bill Lee

Governor Lee is Tennessee's 50th governor.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Early Saturday morning, Bill Lee became Tennessee's 50th governor.

The inauguration ceremony lasted about two hours at the War Memorial Auditorium in downtown Nashville.

Supporters and legislators sat in silence as the new governor placed his hand on the Bible and took the oath of office.

But the serious moments didn't stop people from celebrating afterward.

Governor Lee later took to the stage for his inaugural address making a point to mention education, jobs, and crime.

He also emphasized why the state should continue to come together.

"It is important however to remember that the blue circle around the three stars on our flag represents the unity of our state," Governor Lee said. "I believe Tennesseans have much more that unites us than what divides us."

10News also caught up with Congressman Tim Burchett after the ceremony to get his take on the new governor.

"Bill Lee is the right man at the right time. I'm proud that I voted for him, Bill's been a dear friend to Kelly and Isabel and I," Burchett said.
