TV tonight: 'Americans,' 'Nashville,' 'Beyond Borders'

Criminal Minds
CBS, 9 ET/PT

Apparently Minds won't yield its status as broadcast’s ugliest hour to its beyond-terrible spinoff Beyond Borders without a fight. While Borders’ premiere attempts to scare us out of ever leaving our homes, the original attempts to convince us we’re not safe there, either, with a criminal who abducts children while parents sleep.

Nashville
ABC, 10 ET/PT

If you were a fan of American Crime, you’re no doubt sorry to see it’s gone. If you’re a fan of Nashville, however, you’re happy that it’s back, and with a promised wedding between Deacon and Rayna to boot.

The Americans
FX, 10 ET/PT

Then again, if you’re looking for a show of similar quality to fill the gap left by American Crime, switch to FX's equally challenging and ambitious series, The Americans. This illuminating examination of the shifting definition of heroism and the universal problems of families returns with Elizabeth and Philip (Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys) facing their greatest threat yet: Their daughter (Holly Taylor), who has learned, and shared, the secret of their identity. In the midst of that looming crisis, they’re thrown into an assignment involving bioweapons that once again forces us to question our allegiance to either side and challenges our rooting interest in a couple who are willing to sacrifice innocent lives to what they see as the greater good.
