BEARDEN, Ark. (KTHV) – A Bearden teen drew cheers from around the high school gymnasium as he walked to receive his diploma. The key word is “walked”.
While recent high school graduate Doug Haynes has muscular dystrophy and uses a wheel chair, he wasn’t going to let that stop him from walking to receive his diploma from Bearden High School on May 20.
Haynes’ step brother told THV11 News that the graduate has been working extra hard at therapy to reach this point. He said Haynes has become a symbol of hard work and perseverance to not only his classmates but the community he lives in.
