Wreaths Across America kicks off in Knox County

The deadline for online donations in Nov. 27 and the last day to make a check donation is Nov. 20. Checks should be made out to "Wreaths Across America".

The annual Wreaths Across America kicks off this week.

More than 15,000 veterans are buried in Knox county cemeteries. Wreaths Across America raises money to place as many live wreaths as possible on the gravestones of veterans nationwide.

A $15 donation will pay for a wreath being placed at the grave of a veteran in the Old East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Lyons View Pike, the New East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Governor John Sevier Highway or the Knoxville National Cemetery on Tyson Street near Old Gray Cemetery.

If you'd like to sponsor a wreath, you can make a donation by visiting knoxcounty.org.

There is a "three-for-two" sponsorship special, which means an extra wreath will be donated for every two that are sponsored.

The deadline for online donations in Nov. 27 and the last day to make a check donation is Nov. 20. Checks should be made out to "Wreaths Across America".

The wreaths will be placed on the graves on Dec. 16.
