For her 25th birthday, a Knoxville woman is hoping to create something bigger than herself.
Every year... Jess Maples says she takes on a project for her birthday.
This month she is selling her photography at Awaken Coffee in the Old City which she hopes will draw attention to sexual assault.
Maples says she was assaulted in high school and now she is using her photography as a coping method.
"So, these pictures are really my healing process. I mean, they might not directly show what I went through, but they're a representation of fighting for healing," Maples said.
The proceeds from the photo sale will go to a charity in South Africa... another one of Maples' birthday projects.
