UPDATE Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 at 3:45 p.m.

The Knoxville Police Department has identified the victims in Tuesday morning's deadly crash.

Andrew Patrick, 20, died after the car he was in lost control at the intersection of Witt Place and Dandridge Avenue and was quickly engulfed in flames, according to KPD investigators. Patrick was unable to be removed from the car before the fire got too big.

According to the Knoxville Police Department, two passengers were pulled from the wreck by Knoxville Police Department Officers John Stevens and Andrew Connell. One person was ejected from the vehicle, KPD said.

Those three passengers, Joshua Mynatt, Linda Brown, and Ashley Gaddison, were taken to UT Medical Center for numerous injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 1999 Lincoln Town Car was traveling east on Dandridge Avenue at a high speed when the driver lost control and crashed.

Neighbors who live nearby said they were woken up by the sound of the crash and called 911 as soon as they saw the flames.

"I heard the brakes and then I heard the kaboom," said Kathie Hall. "The car, it looked like it had been crushed. It was a Lincoln, and it was in a compact size."

Investigators have conducted interviews with multiple people and said they will continue to review evidence recovered from the scene.

ORIGINAL STORY Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 at 8 a.m.

A person died in a wreck early Tuesday morning east of downtown Knoxville.

Knoxville police responded to a crash at the corner of Dandridge Avenue and Witt Place around 1:46 a.m. When they arrived, they found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames with three occupants still inside and one outside.

Police said they were able to pull two of the three remaining occupants out of the car. KPD said officers were unable to rescue the fourth occupant because the fire had grown too large. That occupant later died of their injuries.

KPD is still investigating. Police said the car was traveling east on Dandridge Road and lost control, hitting a tree and then landing on its top.

KPD has not released the names of the victims.
