A Tennessee group is working to honor the legacy of local women's suffrage advocates.
Harry and Febb Burn were influential in giving Tennessee women the right to vote. After changing his mind, Harry's vote made Tennessee the 36th state to give women that right.
While some wanted to charge him with bribery, he said the change of heart was inspired by his mother.
"When he came to answer for his vote, he pulled a letter out of his pocket from his mother who had urged him to be a good boy, to follow his conscience, to do the right thing and to support the women's suffrage cause," Wanda Sobieski with the Suffrage Coalition said.
The suffrage coalition needs help funding a statue in their honor in Market Square. They still need $140,000 to complete the project.
