Pond Gap Elementary celebrates end of construction project

Students at Pond Gap Elementary are enjoying several new classrooms, a new gym, playground, and more!

Pond Gap Elementary students, teachers, and parents celebrated the completion of an $8.6 million, 58,000 square foot construction project Wednesday morning.

There are nine new classrooms and restrooms for kindergarten, first, second and third graders replacing portable classrooms that were outside the building There is also a new secure vestibule and front entrance facing Papermill Road, administration and guidance suites, a new special education classroom suite, a gymnasium, art and music rooms, a media center and a cafeteria with kitchen. New bus drive and car drop off locations were also created.

Students actually moved into the new parts of the building a few weeks ago.

They will also soon get to enjoy a brand new $80,000 playground. Several local groups and community members donated money to Knox County Schools to help pay for the new brand new equipment.
