A Delta flight traveling from Atlanta to Cleveland made an emergency landing Sunday morning at McGhee Tyson Airport.
Becky Huckaby with the Airport Authority said they received an alert about the plane a little before 9:30 a.m. Public safety crews checked the aircraft after it landed safely.
Anthony Black with Delta Airlines said the crew experienced an issue with a plane engine. They decided to shut down the engine and divert the aircraft.
Joe Rexrode, a sports columnist for the Tennessean, was on the flight. He sent out a tweet saying, "Just want to thank God right now. Flight from Atlanta to Cleveland blew an engine. Emergency landing in Knoxville. That was scary."
Rexrode also thanked the pilot for landing the plane safely.
Delta sent a recovery flight to take the 139 passengers and six crew members to Cleveland. It was set to arrive three hours after their first scheduled arrival.
