A man is in custody after police say he assaulted an officer and vandalized multiple cars, including one belonging to Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett, near the UT campus Tuesday afternoon.
UT Police said dispatchers received several calls about a man covered in blood from kicking passing cars near Neyland Drive and Lake Loudoun Boulevard around 5 p.m.
Michael Grider, a spokesperson for Burchett, confirmed the mayor's vehicle was one of the ones the man hit and tried to enter.
When officers arrived, the suspect began reportedly began attacking an officer. Officials said when the man refused to stop, the officer tased him.

Officials said the man did not have identification on him and refused to give police his name.
He is in custody and faces assault on an officer and disorderly conduct charges.
