Little Hats, Big Hearts: Donate tiny hats for a precious cause

The American Heart Association is calling all knitters and crocheters in East Tennessee to create tiny red hats for a good cause.

Calling all knitters and crocheters out there: Some precious soon-to-be newborns need help looking their best for a good cause.

The American Heart Association is hosting its annual Little Hats, Big Hearts drive to gather up as many red knitted hats for newborns born in the month of February.

The event honors babies, moms and heart health awareness by asking supporters to knit or crochet red hats to be given out to thousands of babies during American Heart Month in February.

The red hats are asked to be made with cotton or acrylic, medium to heavy-weight yarn and should ideally be machine washable and dryable. The AHA is asking for simple patterns or plain red hats.

The following East Tennessee hospitals will be accepting hat donations:

  • UT Medical Center
  • Covenant Health (Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Parkwest Medical Center, LeConte Medical Center, Methodist Medical Center, Morristown-Hamblen Medical Center, Cumberland Medical Center)
  • Tennova (Tennova North Knoxville Medical Center, Tennova Turkey Creek, Tennova Physicians Regional Medical Center)
  • Cookeville Regional Medical Center
  • Mountain States Health Alliance (Johnson City Medical Center, Franklin Woods Community Center, Indian Path Medical Center, Johnston Memorial Hospital, Norton Community Hospital)
