It's not everyday you get to meet a prince!
An East Tennessee couple was thrilled to see their granddaughter have a special moment with Prince Harry on a recent trip to Scotland.
Rachel Hayes and her husband, Jim, of Kingston, were visiting their son's family in Edinburgh. Their son, Elijah Hixson, lives in Scotland with his wife Katie and two children, 4-year-old Emma and 17- month-old Haddon.
While they were there, they heard that Prince Harry and his fiance, Megan Markle, would be greeting the public at Edinburgh castle.
Emma, who loves Disney princesses (Elsa & Ana from Frozen are her favorites) was thrilled at the chance to catch a glimpse of real live royalty!
The family joined the crowds outside the castle gates, and soon one of the world's most famous couples were there, shaking hands and waving at the crowd.
"Emma was yelling, 'PRINCE HAAARRRYYY!!' and he came over to talk to her.," wrote Hayes in an email to 10News. "We had told her that if she stuck out her hand, he might shake it."
But the prince did more than that!
He came over to the barricade, kneeled down, and said hello to Emma!
"He asked her if she had been to the castle before. She was a little star struck and didn’t answer, just smiled. He asked her name, to which she did reply, 'Emma.' He also chatted a bit about how long we had been waiting," wrote Hayes.
It was an amazing moment for the family, and it didn't go unnoticed! Press photographers snapped the photo, and it was shared by several media outlets.
Even the Kensington Palace official Twitter account snapped a photo and posted it! (That's it in the upper right. Hayes says she is the one in the white hat!)
Hayes says that her son's family moved to Scotland when Emma was only six months old so he could attend university there.
Emma is also the granddaughter of Mike and Karen Hixson, of Ten Mile, and Charla and Vaughan Carlson, of Memphis.
