KPD to host second overdose support group

The next support group meeting for parents, children, siblings or other family members who have lost a loved one due to the drug overdose epidemic will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017.

The Knoxville Police Department is set to hold a second overdose support group this month.

The next support group meeting for parents, children, siblings or other family members who have lost a loved one due to the drug overdose epidemic will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017. The meetings are in the City Court Room located at the Knoxville Police Department Safety Building at 800 Howard Baker Jr. Avenue, Knoxville, TN, 37915.

"The purpose of this group is to help those family members deal with their loss by showing support, but most importantly, showing they are not alone and that there are others that have gone through or are going through the same devastation," KPD Public Information Officer Darrell DeBusk said.

According to KPD, two of the coordinators are mothers who have recently lost sons to the drug epidemic.

Prior registration is not required. There are no costs to attend the support group.

The first meeting was held on Friday, Nov. 17.
