Kodak man dies after car bursts into flames following crash on Highway 66

Witnesses said the Taurus almost collided with another vehicle on Highway 66 before veering onto the shoulder and immediately hitting a concrete wall. When the Taurus hit the wall, it caught fire.

One person has died in a single car crash on Highway 66.

Kenneth M. Altman, 46, of Kodak, died after crashing into a cement wall on Highway 66 Thursday morning, according to Sevierville Police.

Investigators said the crash happened near 3385 Winfield Dunn Parkway in North Sevierville at around 4:50 a.m. Thursday.

According to the police department, witnesses stated that a Ford Taurus traveling east on Interstate 40 was being driven erratically when it exited at the 407 interchange and started driving south on Highway 66.

Witnesses said the Taurus almost collided with another vehicle on Highway 66 before veering onto the shoulder and immediately hitting a concrete wall. When the Taurus hit the wall, it caught fire.

People driving nearby pulled Altman from the crash, according to the police department.

Its cause is under investigation.
