Hamblen Co. deputy recovering after being hit by stolen truck

The deputy is receiving medical attention at a local hospital.

A Hamblen County deputy is recovering after being hit by a stolen truck as two suspects fled the scene.

It happened around 9 p.m. at Carol's grocery on West Andrew Johnson Highway.

According to Hamblen County Sherrif Esco Jarnagin, a deputy stopped a stolen truck. While the deputy was talking to one of the passengers, the driver and a female passenger tried to escape in the truck.

TBI identified the driver as Anthony Duane Sizemore (DOB 1/29/77). They say he accelerated and struck one of the deputies. The other deputy fired shots at the vehicle, striking the driver one time. The other suspect fled on foot. Authorities say that's when deputies opened fire, hitting the truck and possibly the driver.

The stolen truck was later found abandoned in Newport, in Cocke County. Sizemore was also located and taken into custody.

TBI says he is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder. Upon being released from the hospital, Sizemore was booked into the Hamblen County Jail.

Sheriff Jarnagin says the injured deputy is receiving medical attention at a local hospital.

An investigation is ongoing by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents.
