Garth Brooks chooses Nashville to close out successful 2017 North America tour

The country music icon's last show of the year will take place at Bridgestone on Dec. 16.

Garth Brooks announced on Wednesday that he has added a Nashville date to his world tour and plans to end the year in Music City.

"This is the FINAL tour stop in North America!! Let’s take it home!!! love, g," he first tweeted, revealing the news.

The country music icon's last show will take place at Bridgestone on Dec. 16.

"The fact that we are getting to come home, I can't think of a sweeter ending than that," Brooks said later Wednesday morning at a press conference held inside the arena in downtown Nashville.

Brooks has long said that his plan was to end his three-year North American tour in Music City. The Country Music Hall of Famer launched his comeback tour in Rosemont, Ill., in September of 2014. Since then, the tour that also features Trisha Yearwood, has sold more than 6.3 million tickets to make it the biggest North American tour in history and the top-selling American tour in the world.

The "Friends in Low Places" singer said he's "stunned" at the tour's success.

"Everyone could blame the success of the first cities on the newness of it," he said. "But to have … 60 cities on this tour have all set records. Now with the end of the North American leg coming up, the fever, the intensity, the electricity, everything has bubbled to a whole new level."

Brooks is known for playing multiple concerts in each city, adding one at a time as they each sell out. It's been seven years since Brooks played a series of shows at Bridgestone Arena to raise money for victims of Nashville's historic flood in 2010.

Also Wednesday, Nashville Predators' CEO Sean Henry joined by Mayor Megan Barry, and Gov. Bill Halsman unveiled a banner at Bridgestone to honor Brooks for his flood relief efforts.

"This was an example followed by a lot of great people," he said mentioning other country music stars who live in Nashville and performed to help including Tim McGraw, and Keith Urban "All the guys stepped up, men and women... did this for nothing and also did every other fundraiser for nothing."

After taking the month of January off to rest, Brooks said he's got his eye on taking the tour international -- but the journey starts with his current hit single "Ask Me How I Know."

"I’m going to challenge my team now to take that single to Australia and Europe," he explained. "Because it’s still the same … you move here to play country music but your job is to take it to the four corners of the earth."

Tickets for Brooks' Dec. 16 show at Bridgestone Arena will go on sale 10 a.m Nov. 10 through Ticketmaster and will cost $74.98 including fees.
