A fire at a Maryville business was quickly put out Thursday morning, but it left a mess behind to clean up.
Firefighters were called to G&W Woodworks at 9 a.m., located in the building on Broadway Ave. that houses Southland Books, according to David Hodges, deputy chief with the Maryville Fire Dept.
The fire started around an area with wood scraps and other material, and caused aerosol cans in the building to explode.
Firefighters put the fire out in minutes, but had to work on ventilating the building because of the aerosol cans.
No one was inside when the fire started, and no one was hurt.
Fire investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
Southland Books & Cafe wasn't damaged by fire, but posted on its Facebook page that everything is covered in a layer of soot and smells like smoke. They invited folks out for a cleaning party on Friday to help them put things back to rights.
The store owners said they were impressed by the community support helping them clean up the store on Friday.
"We've had people all day coming in and just helping clean, even some just a fifteen minutes, some an hour, and they just been coming in and helping as much as they can, and we just started the today. So we'll be clean today and tomorrow trying to get the books ready the café ready to reopen on Monday," said Catherine Frye, with Southland Books & Cafe.
