Donate old Christmas lights to be recycled

There are several locations around Knox County you can donate old or broken Christmas lights to be recycled.

Do you have old or broken Christmas lights that you no longer want?

Instead of throwing them away, The Arc Knox County and Goodwill industries ask that you donate them so they can be recycled.

"All of that material will go into use again," said Alan Champlin of Sunshine Industries. "It'll be melted down and used in other electronics instead of just sitting in the landfill."

Sunshine Industries employs people with disabilities to take apart and recycle electronics. During the holidays, they'll help recycle more than 1,600 pounds of lights.

"I don't think it's the death of the lights," Champlin said. "I think it's a great opportunity for them to be reused and recycled."
