City cleans up homeless encampments near the bridge on Broadway

The city said the cleanup was part of its ongoing, standard operations to ensure public health and safety.

City crews cleaned up three homeless encampments on public and private property Thursday morning.

The three encampments were located off Broadway and Magnolia; off Blackstock Avenue; and off Dale Avenue, according to the city.

The city said the cleanup was part of its ongoing, standard operations to ensure public health and safety.

"Earlier this week, the city notified people living in the encampments that they would need to move to more appropriate shelter and informed them of the pending cleanup," city of Knoxville Deputy Director of Communications Eric Vreeland said.

The city of Knoxville said it works respectfully and compassionately to assist people living in encampments such as these.

"Our collaborative aim is to help them access resources and live with dignity in a safe, healthy environment," Vreeland said.
