Car pulled from Little Pigeon River after 19-year-old woman dies in crash

A car was pulled from the Little Pigeon River Tuesday morning after a deadly crash that happened Monday.

Investigators said Chloe Lynn McCarter, 19, rear-ended another car on U.S. 321 at Hills Creek Road and went off the roadway Monday afternoon.

According to THP, McCarter's vehicle then went off the road and down an embankment into the river.

A 19-year-old woman has died after her car went off the roadway into the Little Pigeon River Monday afternoon.

Chloe Lynn McCarter, of Gatlinburg, went off the road and into the river after rear-ending another vehicle on U.S. 321 a little before 3 p.m., according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

THP said two cars were stopped in traffic while waiting to turn left onto Hills Creek Road when McCarter collided with the second car. The second car then collided with the car in front of it. The two other drivers were uninjured.

According to THP, McCarter's vehicle then went off the road and down an embankment into the river.

THP said McCarter got out of her vehicle, and was carried away by the current in the river.

"The body was found approximately 4 miles downstream from where it went into the river," said Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller. "We deployed resources to all of the bridges and accessible areas of the river to try to look and put swift water crews in the water with boats."

Family members told WBIR McCarter just recently got married.

Family members say she was taking classes at Walter State Community College and was studying occupational therapy.

They are remembering her for her caring personality and life full of promise cut short.
