After a three month brumation, Zoo Knoxville's pair of critically endangered Chinese alligators are back on view in their habitat.
The zoo said with less than 150 of the species left in the wild, the pair spent several months in a hibernation-like state to increase the chances of fertility.
In December 2017, the pair of Chinese alligators entered a dormant state of brumation which is the reptilian equivalent of mammal hibernation, with hopes for successful breeding in the spring.
