82-year-old woman home for Christmas with help from an ambulance

"Time goes by so quick. I don't have that much time to stay here I'm having so much fun."

Coming home for the holidays doesn't always have to mean flying across the country or driving for hours on end.

Vesta Norman, 82, only traveled a couple miles to be with her family, but the trek was anything but impossible.

"I'm just thankful to be here and have people to take care of me," Ms. Norman said. "I get to see all the family and eat all the good food."

Confined to a wheelchair and unable to move around without help, Norman spends most of her time at the Beverly Park Place Health and Rehab Center where she now lives.

With the help of AMR Ambulances, Norman got the chance to spend Christmas away from her assisted living facility and at home with the rest of her family.

"Christmas is a big tradition in our family," said Bo Norman, Ms. Norman's son. "I don't think she's ever missed a Christmas. It's great to have her home."

For the the paramedics who usually spend their work hours responding to calls where people are in need of help, today marked a chance to relax and enjoy the smiles they helped put on the faces of the Norman family.

"It's an opportunity for us to help someone and it not be a bad situation or a bad outcome," Anastasia Huddleston said.

Ms. Norman will spend Christmas with her family in Powell, TN and will return home to her assisted living facility on Monday evening.

AMR Ambulances works to bring people across the country home for the holidays in their ambulances so they can spend Christmas with their loved ones.
