A man died in a crash on Interstate 40 near downtown Knoxville Friday evening after experiencing a medical condition and hitting the barriers on the side of the road, according to Knoxville Police.
The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. KPD said the driver of a 2004 Toyota Rav 4 was driving eastbound when he "experienced some type of medical condition" and then hit the inside and outside barriers along the roadway. The vehicle also hit two other vehicles before coming to a stop against a wall, KPD said.
The driver was taken to Tennova Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the drivers of the two other vehicles were uninjured.
The name of the driver has not been released.
