ORIGINAL STORY: 3:36 p.m. Saturday

A Rockford man is wanted after Blount County Sheriff's deputies said he ran away after they placed him in handcuffs during a traffic stop.

Jaron D. Powers, 24 of Grade Road in Rockford, was put in handcuffs during the stop in the area of Disco Loop Road in Friendsville, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said he took off in the cuffs while wearing rolled-up jeans and a blue-strip tank. Investigators believe he may be shirtless now and may also be wearing one handcuff.

He was wanted for violating the terms of his probation, BCSO said.

The stop happened a little before noon Friday.

A deputy said he was responding to a call for a domestic disturbance when he recognized Powers in a vehicle on Hamil Road in Friendsville. The deputy conducted a traffic stop after he thought he looked like one of the individuals in the domestic disturbance and encountered Powers, who investigators said was involved in the incident.

Another person was with Powers at the time but was released and not charged.

According to the Blount County Sheriff's Office, several deputies and K-9 teams responded to the area of Disco Loop Road to search for Powers in the wooded area near the traffic stop but couldn't find him.

When he's taken into custody, he faces a number of charges including felony escape, possession of a Schedule V controlled substance (Gabapentin), possession of drug paraphernalia, and the warrant for violating his probation.
