KPD searching for two suspects after rifle pulled during traffic stop

Knoxville Police are looking for two men who fled a traffic stop. One of them pointed a firearm at an officer.

Knoxville police said two suspects are on the run after a confrontation with officers involving firearms.

KPD said Officer Zach Wilson and his trainee conducted a traffic stop on two men at the McDonald's on Magnolia Avenue Friday at around 10:30 p.m. As they approached the vehicle, the passenger began to run away. He then pulled out a rifle and aimed it at Officer Wilson, according to the police department.

Wilson then reportedly fired two shots at the suspect, KPD said. Police said they do not believe the suspect was hit because he dropped his rifle and fled on foot. Officers could not locate the suspect, and during their search the driver also fled the scene.

Knoxville Police say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call (865) 215-7000.
