KPD: Motorist shoots at driver's tires in lunchtime confrontation

After two Knoxville drivers collided, one ended up on the other's hood. He then tried to shoot out the other's tires, KPD says.

Their cars bumped. She put him on the windshield. He slipped off and started firing into her tires.

According to the Knoxville Police Department, now both Knoxville residents are charged.

Azeez Obitayo, 19, is charged with reckless endangerment.

Ariawna Beason, 18, is charged with, among other things, reckless endangerment, vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to KPD, shortly before noon Friday Beason's PT Cruiser collided with Obitayo's Nissan Altima near a Shell gas station on Heiskell Avenue in the Lonsdale area.

"Both vehicles stopped after the collision. Both vehicles only suffered minimal damage," a statement by KPD reads.

And both drivers got mad and started arguing. Beason had several passengers in her car including a 4-month-old. Obitayo also had someone riding with him.

As Beason tried to leave the scene, she "began bumping" Obitayo in the legs with her car, according to KPD.

He ended up on top of the Cruiser.

"The female continued to drive away with the male still on the hood, swerving back and forth, attempting to throw the male off the vehicle," according to KPD.

When she stopped at Heiskell and Central Street, Obitayo jumped off the hood, pulled out a .40-caliber pistol and fired repeatedly at her tires, according to police.

Beason drove about 30 yards to an alleyway and waited for officers.

Both drivers were arrested. During the confrontation, someone hit Obitayo's Nissan back where he'd left it while on Beason's hood.

No one was hurt.

According to KPD, "Obitayo has a state armed security license, but no carry permit."
